“Make It Personal”

“By hearing you shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing you shall see, and shall not perceive.”

So what’s this scripture telling us? Can we see? Yes. But we refuse to. Can we hear? Jesus tells us in Matthew 13 that yes, we can hear, but we refuse to. We are able to understand, Jesus tells us, but by choice, we stubbornly cling to our well-worn traditions taught to us since childhood, even when the Bible teaches differently.

Jesus implores us, “Do you not know that you are wretched, miserable and poor, and blind, and naked?”

“Do you not know?” He asks.

Jesus always speaks out of the great storehouse of love He has for us. He died for us, and He lives for us. He asks a revealing question here, followed by the remedy,
“Buy of Me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich, and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve that thou mayest see.”

These words are salty, not soothing. They bite, but they do not devour. These words are not designed to kill; they are designed to free. Their purpose is to build up our spirit so that we will be able to endure and gain the victory over all the things we are faced with here in this world. Jesus may be the God of comfort. He comforts and He consoles. He is both caring and compassionate. Yet, His words are never soothing, never spoken just to sooth ruffled feathers. Nor does He ever think, “I don’t want to say that because it may hurt someone’s feelings.” Feelings are not important when you consider His goal, which is to save us from being doomed to sickness, lack and defeat here, and for some, into everlasting punishment.

The false prophets have always spoken soothing words, and the world receives them and loves them as its own. The true prophets always speak forthrightly and truthfully. Sometimes the news is good, sometimes bad, but always without fail, each word spoken proves true. They tell it like it is. They speak facts, the facts of God’s Words. They are not popular and the world does not receive them.

Jesus was not popular with the world, with the religious leaders of His day, either, yet He was the greatest of the prophets. He spoke facts. He spoke the Word of God. If we choose to hear His words, if we can humble ourselves before God and say, “I can see that tradition or that teaching was wrong. I thank you for revealing this to me by your Holy Spirit, through your word.”

Here Jesus assures us, “As many as I love, I rebuke, and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.”

I heard. I heard His words. Knocking down the pride Self had created, I bought from Him the gold tried in the fire, true faith. (1 Peter 1:7)

Then I noticed my clothes, or lack of them. They hung from my body in shreds, tattered and torn; only filthy rags. (**) I bought His righteousness—the right standing before God the Father which allows me to go before him day or night, whatever the reason, and whatever the need. Even just to talk and talk and talk, for sometimes I say to Him, “I think I’ll just talk to you, Father, while I do this. I so love our talks. You are the most amazing Person I know to talk to, for you are the wisest, the kindest and the most loving one I have ever known. I’m so glad to have You in my life. You ARE my life.”

In prayer, because I am righteous, the Father always hears me, like He did Jesus, and I am assured that my prayers avail much (are weighty, have impact). As I prevail against the enemy, I get the same results as Elijah and Jesus. He answers and His answer is always YES!

As I pray, and while I go about my day, His righteousness serves as my breastplate against the enemy, the deceiver who comes to steal, to kill, and to destroy. (Ephesians 6:14; John 10:10)

I am clothed in the Father’s righteousness. If you have made Jesus your Lord, then so are you! Put it on and never take it off.

“…the fine linen, clean and white: the righteousness of the saints.”

The blindness of false teachings, which were hard for me to even admit were false at first, blinded my eyes so that I was unable to see the truth. I bought from the Lord the eyesalve, not knowing I even needed it, for my teachings were sound. After all, my denomination had the entire truth. Or did it? I was rich and in need of nothing. Or was I?

In obedience to the Word, I anointed my eyes with eyesalve. I submitted myself to the teachings of the Holy Spirit, under His anointing, the bringer of sight. (Psalms 19:8; Ephesians 1:18; 1 John 2:27)

The scales fell from my eyes. All I know is this—I was blind, but now I see. The Word is the eye-opener, as we read it humbly and prayerfully, not to prove ourselves right, but to prove God as right.

I am no longer wretched, and miserable and poor, and blind.

I took hold of His truth, the truth that caused me to receive my sight, and I applied it to every area of my life. And here’s my testimony: I am healed. I am free. I am delivered. I am made richer than I ever dreamed. Yet, I do not stop seeking after God through His eternal Word. With effort, applying myself diligently, I continue to draw nearer to Him as I study, confess, and meditate upon His Word. And I grow richer still. In doing so, I remain free, and I become freer. I stand fast in the liberty wherein Christ has made me free. (Galatians 5:1)

“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying unto the churches!” Jesus spoke these words seven times in the span of two chapters of Revelations. (chapters 2 and 3) In addition, Jesus consistently pleaded for us to hear throughout his ministry on earth. All through the Gospels we see “HEAR, HEAR, HEAR!”

And this message didn’t end when he died on the tree, was buried, and came back to life after three days and three nights, and after forty days during which he appeared to many witnesses, He ascended to heaven, where He makes intercession for us night and day. The Holy Spirit, speaking through the Apostles kept repeating this same word, “HEAR, HEAR, HEAR!”

Is there something He wants each of us to do? Yes! HEAR His words, so we will believe and do them! But we must hear them before we will believe them. It’s impossible to follow a teaching we don’t hear and therefore do not understand. For Jesus knows that when we hear His word, and it dawns on us that each of His promises are for us personally, and meant for this life, for here and now, we will take each promise and make it personal, as it is meant to be. He wants you to know it. His words continue even now, “HEAR, HEAR, HEAR!” Jesus says you can.
Hear Him, and the truth will finally hit you—God’s Word is not just a beautiful sounding concept, it is alive and powerful. Take each promise. Confess it; Meditate upon it. You may need to do this for a few days, or a few weeks, or even a few weeks. But it's a process. Knowing it in your head is not enough. You will gain nothing from it. Each promise comes alive when we personalise it. So go ahead: Hear it. Believe it. Receive it. Say it.

By way of his promises, you too can be healed, freed, delivered, complete and whole.
His promises are personal, His Words are personal. Take them as personal, make them your own. Make them your family member’s own. I know the power of the Word in my own life, not once but many times over, He has healed me through His unfailing Word. He has worked many miracles for me, for my loved ones, and in the lives of the ones I pray for.

I remember well the nerve damage that attacked my entire body. But, I noticed it first in my arms and hands. Suddenly, I could use my hands less and less. I am both-handed, but I write with my left hand. But, nerve damage is progressive. It comes on and it worsens, as the nerves become more severely damaged. It hit both hands and arms. But, the right hand was most affected. When I awoke in the morning, my hand would be swollen to three times its normal size. It became increasingly numb, and helpless. The swelling would not lessen until near the end of the day, so basically I was no longer able to use it. I felt as useless as my hand, and the other was not much better. My doctor sent me to a specialist for tests on the nerves. These tests showed that the trouble was in the ulnar nerve going through the elbow area and on down to the hand. Only then was I sent to a surgeon.

Both arms would require surgery, he said, but first things first. He'd do the worst one, the arm and hand on right, then the left.

Quick action was imperative from a medical stand point. But “quick action” is kind of hard to come by over here because we have FREE health care. And it doesn’t matter really what the trouble is, either, there is always a waiting list, and you are never jumped up to the head of this list. Doesn’t matter what your problem is or how severe it is. There are other people who are just as bad or worse, and their need is the same or greater than yours. So it’s basically first come, first serve. I remember being on a list back this from back when I still had my old thyroid in the early 2000s. A huge goiter developed in the front of my neck. My doctor finally noticed it, and called it to my attention. He said to me, “You’ll need surgery to have that removed.” In the meantime, I was choking on food because of it. Yet, this is not what made surgery so very urgent. The doctor decided I should have a scan of the thyroid area prior to any surgery date being set. The girl who did the scan almost came unglued. She said to me, “You’ve got two tumours on your thyroid.” She was greatly concerned over her findings. But, it would take surgery to discover whether the tumours were benign or malignant.

Problem was that it would have been too late medically for anything to be done by the time I had surgery. My day for surgery stretched into a long six month wait! And since I did not know at the time that there was healing from Jesus every time, I waited for it on pins and needles. Fortunately, the surgery brought with it good news:The tumours were benign much to my relief!

I had the nerve tests on my arms, in my hands, and back in June of 2009, the year of tragedy for my family. (See Your Testimony Will Show Them” Part 1) Strangely enough, I found myself being wheeled into surgery two weeks following mama’s death in October. The surgeon had told me that the surgery was a quick and simple procedure. He also assured me that the surgery would fix me up as good as new. Both turned out to be untruths. But, let’s skip the surgery for now and concentrate on the healing process.

As the arm healed, I found that the arm from the elbow down was partially numb. I could use the hand a bit better than before surgery, but no, it was not fixed up as good as new. Surgery is often very limited in what it can do.

Fortunately, no job is too big for the power of God. In 2010, Chris and I began reading verses of scriptures together. They weren’t even entire verses, only partial. They ranged from prosperity to victory to healing. We read them out of obedience, and for no other reason. Neither of us was looking for anything specifically, except a blessing, perhaps, but we were consistent. We read these same scriptures morning and night for several months straight. And we read them out loud. We took turns. I would read half, then I would pass the Bible over to Chris, and he would read the rest. One day, when our devotion time was over, I walked into the kitchen and I reached out to get some coffee when I noticed an incredible thing. The numbness had completely disappeared from my arm. The arm was healed, it was new, it was whole; it was free. The hand was perfectly normal too. All symptoms had simply disappeared.

Not long after, I had caused to celebrate again as the left arm was healed as well, by the power of God, through His Word. As I've said, my life proves that God's Word is true for today. So take hold of it and don't let go! There is power in His word. It IS alive, for Jesus is The Word.

A few months after this amazing healing, I saw the surgeon for a checkup. It was a different surgeon this time. He that I was moving my arm and hand freely, that they appeared to be normal in every way. This sent him into a state of confusion, as he had just finished reviewing what state my arm was in pre-surgery. Puzzled he asked me, “What were the symptoms in your arm before surgery; tell me?” So I told him, as he compared what I said in my own words to what was written in my records. Then he looked at me and said, “That’s impossible!” I said, “What do you mean?” He replied, “I don’t understand it. Your arm and hand cannot be normal. Surgery can’t do that.” Then he explained,” Nerve damage is progressive. Once a nerve has been damaged, it does not repair itself, and the damage it has done to the body cannot be reversed or cured by surgery. Surgery only prevents it from worsening. That’s all. So what happened?” “God healed me through His word”, I told him. “I’ve been reading His word every day, and I was healed.”

Do you need a miracle in your life?

Know that His words are not the words of men, they are powerful; they are alive. Believe Hebrews 4, “For the Word of God is ALIVE, lively, powerful, active, sharper than a two-edged sword, piercing the division between the soul(mind, emotions, will) and the spirit, and of your joints and marrow(body), and able to discern the thoughts and intentions of your heart.” Hebrews 4:12.

You cannot receive this truth with your head. Don’t even try. It’ll never happen. Confess this. Hear it in your heart. Jesus says you can. Truth is only spiritually discerned.
Hear me when I say that His Word is as alive today as it used to be. It works for me, and it’ll work for you.

Hear it. Believe it. Receive it. Confess it. Say it.

Jesus says you can; I say you can.

Hearing with your heart unlocks the door through which the truth of God’s Word becomes a life-changing reality to you. HEAR, HEAR, HEAR! Jesus did not say this just because He liked the sound of His own voice. His words are not just a bunch of meaningless words.

We see and hear the words and the sounds of this physical world with our physical eyes and ears; we see and hear the Word of God with our spiritual eyes and ears.
So, starting now, use what God gave you. See with the eyes of your heart, not your head. Hear with the ears of your heart, not your head. Jesus says you can. You can hear when you choose to hear. Believe you can, and say to him each time you need to see or hear something He tells you, pray this, “Lord, I release by choice the eyes and ears of my spirit so I can hear and see what you say.”

The greatest lie of all is that we see and hear God’s Word with our minds. We can only understand God’s Word with our hearts. This was the truth when you received Jesus as your Savior. You heard and saw that you needed to receive Him with your heart, for it is with the HEART that man believes unto righteousness. (Romans 10:10)With the heart, man believes, not the head. Your head fought you then, and your head will fight you now. It cannot comprehend the truth of God’s Word; it can only comprehend man’s words. God’s Word is only spiritually discerned; man’s words are received in our minds, with mental reasoning. This is why it seems so much easier to receive, and why they make “more sense” to our heads. Another thing you’ll notice is that your heads won’t fight against man’s traditions or teachings the way it will against God’s Words, but your heart will!

Jesus said, “He that hath an ear, let him hear…” You have an ear. “Blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear.” So use them. Hear. Believe. Receive. Say. And do it with the heart, not the head. Release those promises into your life, as I have done, and many others as well. He gave these exceeding, precious promises to you to hear and to use.

Make it personal. Hear the Word. Do this and you’ll find they are just not for show, or for certain people, they are for YOU.
